Residential Foam Insulation

Insulating Your Home Using Residential Foam Insulation

Those who are looking to decrease their energy bills should look into the status of their home insulation. Having the right type and the right amount of insulation in your home can really make a difference to you heating and cooling bills. Residential foam insulation is one good option, especially for those who are just getting their homes built. Residential foam insulation provides a better barrier to keep air, moisture, and heat where they belong.

One type of residential foam insulation is rigid foam insulation, like FOAMULAR® 150 from Owens Corning. This foam comes in large sheets and can be cut to size easily using common tools. It comes in ½ inch, 1 inch, 1 ½ inch, and 2 inch thick boards measuring either 24 inches by 96 inches or 48 inches by 96 inches. This residential foam insulation is almost impossible for moisture to get through, which is why it is usually used on exterior walls or in basements and crawl spaces.

Another option is ICYNENE LD-R-50™, which is a type of spray foam insulation. This particular product has been made to be a residential foam insulation that is more environmentally friendly than many of the other options available. It is made using castor oil to replace most of the petroleum based products that are commonly used in this type of insulation. This open cell spray foam is supposed to be able to reduce energy consumption by as much as fifty percent. In order to make it an Environmentally Preferable Product, it is made to be totally water blown and it doesn’t contain any HFCs or PBDEs.

For people who like to do things themselves, you can even buy kits from some companies so that this is possible. One example of this type of residential foam insulation kit is the Foam It Green® Spray Foam Insulation Kits. These come in a number of different sizes. For $1,369 you can get a kit that will cover 1,200 square feet. This cost includes shipping. Other smaller kit prices do not include this fee. Sizes available include kits that cover 602 square feet (for $609.98), 202 square feet (for $329.99), or 12 square feet (for $29.99). Using residential foam insulation kits can result in a considerable cost savings. The residential foam insulation used in these kits is simple to apply and consists of a closed cell spray foam, which tends to be more expensive but provide better insulation than open cell spray foam.

I'm glad I found this site. I am going to have my brother help me insulate my home and I have a good idea of what to look for now.
