Keeping Your Garage Comfortable With Garage Door Insulation
One of the largest areas in many homes that is not insulated is the garage door. Adding garage door insulation can really improve your heating and cooling costs, as well as make your garage a more comfortable place to be. There are a number of different easy to install garage door insulation kits that you can purchase to remedy this situation.
Texas Garages sells a number of different garage door insulation kits to suit the different needs of their customers. A PanelFoam Garage Door Insulation Kit costs $129 and consists of 8 panels that measure 54"W x 20"H x 1-1/4"T. This will cover a standard 8’-9’ by 7’ garage door. All that is required to install these panels is a tape measure, measuring tape, pencil, and utility knife. The panels consist of Expanded PolyStyrene with a High Impact PolyStyrene (HIPS) laminated plastic facer to make them durable and easy to clean.
Another option is the Reflective Double Foil Kit. This kit costs $129 for one door and $195 for two doors and are made of two layers of heavy-duty polyethylene air-bubble film inside two layers of 99.9% pure aluminum foil. For those who don’t want to look at the foil, there is also a slightly less effective option, the Reflective Single Foil White Vinyl Kit. This kit has the same two layers of air-bubble film, but only one side is backed with foil and the other has a white vinyl. A one door kit costs $119 and a two door kit costs $175.
Another company that makes garage door insulation kits is Falcon Foam. Their kit costs $85 and will cover one door. The panels are made from EPS insulation and have High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) Laminate on the side that will be visible.
Innovative Energy, Inc. also makes kits to use for garage door insulation. These kits are made from AstroFoil Reflective Insulation, and can be purchased with one white side or with both sides foil covered.
All of these garage door insulation products have been tested to make sure that they will not interfere with the operation of your garage door. At most they will add ten pounds to the weight of the door, and this doesn’t seem to necessitate adjustment of the springs or any problems with the door as long as they are installed properly. All kits come with instructions, which should be followed in order to insure you get the most benefit possible from your garage door insulation.
