Expanding Foam Insulation

Benefits Of Expanding Foam Insulation

There are a lot of different types of insulation to choose from, and sometimes it can be difficult to make up your mind which one to use. Whatever you do, you should definitely at least consider expanding foam insulation as one of your options. Although expanding foam insulation is one of the newer types of insulation, it has a lot of advantages.

Expanding foam insulation is sprayed onto the walls and ceilings that are meant to be insulated and it expands to create an almost impermeable layer, filling in any little cracks, gaps, or holes as it expands. This means that almost no air, dust, or moisture will get through to your home from outside. Without extra moisture you will have less of a problem with mold, and with moisture and air kept out you will find it easier and less expensive to maintain the desired temperature in your home.

Unlike other types of insulation, mold cannot grow on expanding foam insulation and animals will not consider it a nesting material or a food. This means your home will be cleaner and more hygienic.

Most importantly, expanding foam insulation is one of the most effective insulators out there, although the initial costs of installing it are the highest. However, the extra costs will quickly be recouped by the extra savings you will realize by using this insulation.

The easiest way to get expanding foam insulation installed, especially if you need to cover a large area, is to hire a professional. However, if you think that you are handy and you are willing to take the time and make the effort necessary you can install this insulation yourself using one of the kits available.

One of the options for expanding foam insulation kits is available from Tiger Foam. These kits cover either 200 square feet with 1 inch of foam (for $335) or 600 square feet with 1 inch of foam (for $610). There are slow rising and fast rising formulas depending on whether you are filling cavities or spraying it on a wall. Kits come with everything you need and don’t require any assembly. Another option is HandiFoam, which has similar options and pricing to Tiger Foam. Both of these expanding foam insulation products have been formulated to be as safe and environmentally friendly as possible.

We are having a new home built and I don't know what the builder plans to use for insulation. I like the idea of using this since rodents won't want to nest in it.
