There are so many different types of insulation out there it can be difficult to figure out just what type of insulation you should use. There are different materials to be used in different places, as well as different styles of insulation once you have decided on the material you would like to use.
Residential foam insulation is one of the best types of insulation out there. It creates a great barrier since it usually consists of expanding foam insulation that fills up any gaps where air and moisture might otherwise get into your home. It is usually sprayed into the place where you want it.
A more commonly used type of insulation, and one of the less expensive types that you can get is blow in insulation. This might be mineral wool insulation, fiberglass insulation, or cellulose insulation. It takes a thicker layer of insulation if you use this type than if you use batts.
Foam roof insulation isn’t always used in the United States since it creates a moisture barrier and will block the vents if you have a vented roof. However, it is starting to become more common as it is commonly used in some other countries and really keeps attics from getting too hot or cold, and therefore makes it easier to keep your home the right temperature.
Since heat rises, attic ceiling insulation is some of the most important insulation in your house. If it is not properly done you will end up wasting a lot of money getting and keeping your house at the temperature you prefer.
Another important type of insulation that many people overlook is garage door insulation. If you want to keep your garage at a comfortable temperature this is really important. For those who have garages connected to their homes this can also possible create a small savings on their energy bill.
There are some locations where you need to use special insulation. Those with hot water or steam heating systems will need to get steam pipe insulation, as regular insulation cannot be used at the higher temperatures involved with these pipes.
Cellular glass insulation is a special commercial insulation that is used for extreme temperatures and when extra fire resistance is needed. It is used on roofs as well as around different types of pipes and equipment.

We have blanket FG insulation in the floor of our clear span open attic. What problems may occur if we also insulate the underside of the roof in the attic with blanket FG insulation. Please Reply.

I agree with most of the comments, the main thing I care about is staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

We also bought a house a few years ago that had no insulation in the attic at all. The first thing I did was install good insulation.

Insulation definitely makes a big difference. We bought a house five years ago that ame with high utility bills. I finally had someone come out to install new insulation in the attic. This made a huge difference in both our bills and our level of comfort.

This site has given me a good place to start researching insulation types. We have to do something with the home we just bought. The utility bills are killin' me.

To tell you the truth, i really don't care what type of insulation I get put in my house just as long as it keeps the heat and air conditioning in my home efficiently.
